Guilhem Augier Novella {PC 205}

Person

G A Novella {205}, G A de Grassa [DOM=0], Guilhem Augier [DOM=0]; MdR 1209-1228; 7/99 per Cyril Hershon, GA escaped to Lombardy ca. 1212 [Frederic II est encore roi] as a "new" man, then returned. Rixte 2000:29 prob. born ca. 1185; GRLMA II.1.7:244 né vers 1185, mort vers 1235, fl. ..1209-..1230..; descort no.3 composé à Béziers avant 1209, se trouve ds le même MS que le planh {205,2} datable avec certitude à 1209 [sur la mort de son jeune protecteur Raimon Roger, mort 11/1209; GRLMA VI.E #5172 sirv {205,7} écrit trois ans avant d'avoir été rappatrié chez les Viennois (avant 1225); descort no. 5 composé en Italie, prob. peu avant 1225 ; fait partie du groupe de troubadours - jongleurs réfugiés en Italie (P. Meyer, Ro 10 [1881]:263); Guida 1989:118 (118-126) Guillem Augier has been identified as the Augerius judex domini comitis Provincia (judge, in chartes of Raimon Berenguier V de Provence) during the period 1220-1240 -- but in none of the docs cited does the name Guglielmo appear, although there is mention of a Willelmus Augerius, witness in doc 1233 Gap, and in doc 1257 Riez; doc 1233 Arles shows "Augerius de Grassa" -- Guida argues that the two are not the same person, and that the troubadour is actually "un joglars de Vianes" (cf. Ogiers de uiena, Ugiers de sant donat); Guida 1989:120 the same Augier cannot have been been judge in 1219 and also (as his coblas suggest) present in Italy ca 1221 as a troubadour; Calzolari argues that the shift in social position was possible -- but Guida counters that there is no mention of it in the vida; Guida refutes the identitification of the troubadour with the Willelmus Augerius son-in-law of Raimon de Mevouillon, of this Willelmus with the 1233 witness in Gap doc; Guida also refutes the id of Guillem Augier in dialogue with Peire Cathala and with Bertran del Pojet -- the "guillem augier" named by both of these canNOT be the troubadour, as Schultz-Gora, De Lollis, etc have shown: these two troubadours refer to a signore/nobiluomo; BEdT 1999/07/27 generazione 4= 1190-1235; problematica; non è da escludere che i testi sotto la sigla 205 appartengano in realtà a più autori distinti, per quanto operanti tutti nella prima metà del XIII secolo. De Bartholomaeis 1911-12c, p.98); Hershon 2001:140 on prétend qu'Augier s'est rendu en Lombardie pour échapper à la colère du roi français après avoir écrit la complainte de la mort de Raimon-Roger Trencavel [10 novembre 1209] (petit-fils de Raimon Trencavel I); Hershon 2001:141 un jongleur viennois ne se permettrait pas d'être qualifié de Biterrois; disagreeing with Calzolari, Hershon 2001:142 finds it unlikely that a man who has admitted to being both thief and jongleur would be known as "Augerius judex domini comiti Provincie", or as "Willelmus Augerius" (mari de Mateline, fille et heritière de Raimon de Mevoullion [Drome]); Hershon p142 les preuves ne sont pas définitives; tout que l'on sait c'est que ces deux pièces ont une provenance biterroise; Guillem Augier ajouta Novella en Italie; Muller 1899 conclut logiquement que tous les noms faisaient allusion en fait au jongleur Augier de Saint Donat; Hershon 2001:11 "ce qui nous interésse chez Sakari [1963] c'est la déclaration que le scribe de C se serait trompé de troubadour [Raimon Gaucelm de Beziers, q.v.]. 14-5 (Gabriel Moger, che dibatte con Gabriel Ferruç); Pulsoni 2001:114 creates 9 new "schede"/records for Guillem Augier Novella {PC 205}: Augier (H), Ogier Novella (AD), Ogier [de Vianes (vida, after the section) (IK), Ogier Niella (C) , Augier [Ugier F] de Sant Donat (CF), Ugier de Viena (F), Guillem Augier (R), Guillem Augier de Grassa (M) , Guillem Mogier de Beziers (C); Libr of Congr "fl. 1185-1235"; [KK 2005-05-02]Guillem Augier, author of {PC 205,7} /Is the same as/Seigneur d’Oze [05, arr de Gap]; ca. 1230 podestat d’Arles [Aurell 1989:85 “probablement” ]; Bec 2004:91 séjourna longtemps en Italie du nord, p-ê 1212-1225/1225; sa dernière pièce datable est de 1228; edn Calzolari, Monica, Il trovatore G A N, Modena: Mucchi, 1986 (220 pp.) [fl. 115-1235], and c.r.
